No Man's Land - Get Your Shots Straight On The Bunker
|
|
The bunker is truly a no man's land, when you're playing a game of golf. I mean, imagine getting the golf ball stuck in the sand and you're simply swinging away and every time you look down, the ball is still there. It's like the ball has a mind of its own and it has made the bunker its home for eternity. This of course wouldn't be your worst-case scenario, if you knew how exactly to get the ball out of the bunker at your first attempt itself. So the next time your playing golf, you wouldn't even worry about the golf ball ending up in the bunker. Getting it out could be like eating a piece of cake.
If you are someone, who has stepped on the greens for the first time, once you follow some pointers, the game will be like a breeze for you. So, if your ball has ended up in the sand, the only thing you can think of is to whack the hell out of it, so that it just goes off to the green. But, it is not so simple because the ball might just move a foot away and still be in the bunker. The trouble with getting the ball out of the bunker is due to the sand wedge and of the ball bouncing back on it (because of the curve). You will find yourself back to square one.
The best way to counter such a problem is to add in a little weight to your left foot and swing the club a bit below the sand. Once you do this, the club will make some contact with the ball and your bunker problems are out of the picture. However, you also have to remember that you have to keep the golf club a bit tilted, so that it produces more effect. Your body has to be completely still, when you are preparing for this shot, which means you should not twist and turn.
When you go for the downswing heading towards the sand, you have to make sure that you strike the ball at least one inch behind it. One thing has to be clear that you are not focusing to striking the ball, but simply keep one inch behind it. One of the best things about hitting a shot out of a bunker is that you can get as creative as you want to. You don't have to try blasting the ball out of the sand, but you are simply trying to advance it away from the bunker. This means that your golf swing should not be very hard.
Practicing is the key to improve in this game and you can practice at home, your office or on the golf course. The trick while practicing is that you have to position the club at a steep angle. The grip end has to be pointed towards the ground and while practicing the shot, simply strike an inch behind the ball. Practicing this shot on a regular basis will assure that you will actually have fun, when you're on the bunker. Following these tips will make you a professional at the game and the bunker won't be an entrance to hell's gate anymore.
